Tumblr, as defined by the BBC news:
“In plain English, Tumblr can be best described as something that exists between Twitter and a traditional blog, for people who have more than 140 characters to say - but not much time in which to say it.”
Yahoo’s chief financial officer, Ken Goldman, made the claim during a call with analysts, although he did not give firm numbers.
Its chief executive Marissa Mayer said Tumblr would operate independently, in a promise “not to screw it up”.
Yahoo’s board has approved a deal to buy New York-based blogging service Tumblr for $1.1bn (£725m), US media reports say.
The acquisition is expected to be announced as early as Monday.
The deal was a “foregone conclusion” and was unanimously voted for by the board, tech blogAllThingsD reported, citing sources close to the matter.
If confirmed, it will be CEO Marissa Mayer’s largest deal since taking the helm of Yahoo in July 2012.
Neither Yahoo nor Tumblr responded immediately to requests for comment.

BBC News - Ex-Prime Minister Baroness Thatcher dies, aged 87
Former Prime Minister Baroness Thatcher has died “peacefully” at the age of 87 after suffering a stroke while staying at the Ritz hotel in central London.
David Cameron called her a “great Briton” and the Queen spoke of her sadness at the death.
Lady Thatcher was Conservative prime minister from 1979 to 1990. She was the first woman to hold the role.
She will not have a state funeral but will be accorded the same status as Princess Diana and the Queen Mother.
The ceremony, with full military honours, will take place at London’s St Paul’s Cathedral.
The union jack above Number 10 Downing Street has been lowered to half-mast while Parliament will be recalled from its Easter recess on Wednesday to enable MPs to pay tributes to the former prime minister.
